Suol097Chopstick & JohnjonPining Moon / Roots Revisited

Our head honchos Chopstick & Johnjon are revisiting two real gems in their extensive discography. ‘Pining Moon’ and ‘Roots’ first came out a good six years ago to great acclaim. For 2020, they have now been remixed by two absolute heavyweights of the game.
The remix for ‘Pining Moon’ comes courtesy of none other than Daniel Bortz whose originals and remixes on Permanent Vacation, Get Physical, TAU, and of course Suol, have made him a household name. Mr Bortz’s interpretation builds up an intensely grooving bed of drums and percussion, with shuffling shakers, reverbed claves and meaty toms. Nicely driven along by a straight kick, the percussion intensifies and the track unfolds, taking the original elements on a riveting journey of pure joy for your ears as well as your dancing feet.
Sasse has a similarly impressive back catalogue to his name, most of which was released on his own imprint, the seminal Moodmusic label. His remix of ‘Roots’ works with a kicking drum machine groove, with cleverly echoing claps, bouncing hi-hats and melodically tuned toms. The song’s beautiful chord progression comes in with floating strings delightfully wrapping themselves around the vocal. Pianos take over into a break down that might just bring a little tear to your eye before that groove comes back in and this beauty of a remix really hits home.
As a bonus, both tracks are revisited in the form of beatless acoustic versions for your listening enjoyment.
