Suol055Chopstick & JohnjonRun Slowly

Suol label bosses Chopstick & Johnjon return with the second single from their recent LP “Twelve”. The album’s opener, “Run Slowly” is an intensely soulful track which bridges the gap between electronic and acoustic instrumentation. Densely layered guitar and string harmonics dovetail alongside Chris James’ mournful vocals to create a rich emotional listening experience, but without sacrificing dancefloor potential.
André Lodemann’s less-is-more interpretation retains the melodic elements but injects it with space by weaving it out across nine minutes into a carefully controlled crescendo of muted harmonies.
Few Nolder’s slightly harder interpretation has a tougher bassline and brittle synth stabs, but melts away into a delicately beautiful breakdown, retaining the bittersweet strings and vocals of the original.
Rounding off the EP is Quarion’s remix, a late night excursion which comprises primarily of an ominous arpeggiated synth and muffled chords. Leaving the vocals fully intact, it makes for heady and intoxicating listening.
